Real Madrid is reportedly showing interest in Cesc Fabregas, who is making an impression in Italy as the manager of Como.
According to journalist Jorge Picon, Real Madrid is closely monitoring Cesc Fabregas's work at Como. The former Spanish midfielder began leading the team in the summer of 2024 and contributed to Como's promotion to Serie A that same year.
Fabregas's deep ties with Barcelona will certainly make Real Madrid consider carefully, as he grew up in the La Masia academy and spent many years playing at Camp Nou. Nevertheless, the impact Fabregas has made as a coach is undeniable, with Como currently competing for a European cup spot.
After 28 rounds in Serie A, Como is ranked fourth in the standings, just behind last season's champion Napoli, who is in third place, by five points. Fabregas's team has won 14 matches and lost only 5 in the league.
Fabregas's reputation is also increasingly enhanced by the impressive results with Como at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia stadium. There have even been rumors that he could one day return to manage Barcelona, his childhood club.
In this context, Real Madrid is said to have studied Fabregas's working methods quite thoroughly. The 38-year-old strategist often uses a 4-2-3-1 formation and builds an attacking-oriented style of play. To date, Fabregas has achieved 31 wins in 72 matches coaching Como and is contracted with the Italian club until June 2028. He is currently regarded as one of the notable young coaches in Europe and has caught the attention of president Florentino Perez.
Many also notice similarities between Fabregas and Xabi Alonso, who left Bernabeu earlier this year. Both were technical midfielders during their playing careers, both are young coaches who have made an impact while managing underrated teams. Alonso helped Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title, and both understand the pressure of working at major clubs.
Therefore, some opinions suggest appointing Fabregas could bring similar risks as in Alonso's case. Previously, Alonso faced considerable difficulties in managing the dressing room and implementing his tactical philosophy.
At Como, Fabregas is granted significant control over his work, which he likely would not have if managing Real Madrid. Thus, for success, it is crucial that president Florentino Perez creates conditions for him to apply a similar approach as he did at Como.
